Glad to see you go back after a bit of time as the bottle or your palate can change. Had a Penelope toasted that reminded me of kerosene when first opened. Put it down for a couple of months and it had wonderful orange notes and was quite enjoyable. Even my friends could not believe it was the same bottle when I gave it to them blind. You never know. Agree with you on the traveler.
Had an opportunity to try the old charter was at a liquor store where the owner got 2 bottles in. He cracked one and we both tasted it. I swear we both had the same look on our faces after the 1st sip. That's a good 35-45$ bourbon at best. Should probably pack it's bags and hang out with the traveler whisky. They can both ride of into the sunset of mediocrity
The 2 that I did not like this year were Johnny Walker high rye and Nulu toasted, the JW was nasty and it was poured down the drain, the Nulu is ok with cola added but not good neat, I'm glad i got it on sale.
I passed on 2 of the three, thanks for the knowledge on the charter oak. Funny, one of my disappointments is also a BT product, Hancock Reserve, but I chalked that up to being a single barrel. Picked up my raffle on Tuesday from Shannon, there is a little something there for ya, cheers Judge
I totally agree on that high rye bakers…..just got my bottle about a week ago…hopefully it will open up??? I keep hearing good things about it, but I agree with you…not the best
Interesting observation on the Beam peanut note. I tend to have the same reaction to Bookers - the spicier batches don't hit the mark, but the peanut note works really well in the batches that are more caramel/vanilla/oak forward
Awesome video Judge!!! Been working overnight so I've been MIA😂 but when I get a chance I've been enjoying Makers 46 cask strength. Love the content as usual... You the man!!!✌️
I didn't buy into the Traveler hype but some one brought it to a bottle share and I honestly didn't think it was that bad. We had it first that night because of the low proof and everyone thought it would be a good introductory bottle and it's inexpensive. I liked it a LOT better than Longbranch. I bought a bottle of the High Rye Bakers 7, haven't tried it yet. Disappointing to hear you didn't like it.
Travelers is a non whiskey drinker’s whiskey. Light, sweet, not much flavor. I really wanted the Baker’s until I started seeing the reviews. Great video.
bakers 7 high rye is far from bad. It just doesn't taste as good as original bakers 7. Its hard for ryes out there when there is bulliet 12 yr for its price lol
My disappointment was a Rye from J Henry that was finished in Vino Naranja barrels. I think I picked it up for $90. I know J Henry is quality whiskey, but that one just didn't tickle my palette the right way.
lol great episode I stayed away from Traveler. I could see a crappy review coming a mile away! 😂 I tried Baker’s 7 at BourbonFest a year ago and I was not a fan at all

OGD 16 very disappointing it should be a 60 bottle at best.
Ehh, I’d pay $100 for it

I have a 2021 Old Charter Oak French Oak that is great! I wonder if 2024 is just an off year.
The Old Charter Oak does open up quite nicely after some time. Still not a great value, but not the worst at MSRP ($70) either

Love your reviews...thanks...
When you buy a decent amount of whiskey there will always be a few klunkers unfortunately. Hopefully the good more than outweighed the bad!
Have you tried Jim Bean winter reserve? Real good , under $30.
Agreed! Lots of cinnamon
Im going no where near that Bakers high rye BS
Bakers high rye tast like cough syrup
Thanks for saving me some $$$$.
That Bakers get a some mixed reviews, some love it and some hate it really no in between.
Brother, notes taken🫡
The travelers review, their forty bucks out the window! Loved it!
that French oak is Awesome you crazy! But ya Not worth over $100... Glad to hear things you don't Love though
You are brave to try again
lol great episode
I stayed away from Traveler. I could see a crappy review coming a mile away! 😂

Bakers looked like it was a bad touch...😂
Did you really expect anything good with travelers ?
Traveller is a ten dollar mixer.
Anyone that dislikes traveler I know has good taste in whiskey
